The City of Huber Heights is proud to announce the launch of its first-ever Citizens’ Academy, a free, hands-on program designed to give residents an inside look at how their city operates. Applications are now open for the 2026 program, which begins in January and runs for seven weeks plus a graduation ceremony.
The Citizens’ Academy offers residents an opportunity to engage directly with City departments, meet the staff who provide essential services, and learn how day-to-day decisions are made. Each weekly session will highlight a different area of city operations - including City Council and Administration, Finance, Public Works, Planning and Zoning, Utilities, Parks and Recreation, and Public Safety. The final session will be a graduation and celebration for the 2026 cohort.
“This new program brings transparency, understanding, and connection to the people who make Huber Heights the great community it is,” said Mayor Jeff Gore. “The Citizens’ Academy will strengthen relationships between residents and city staff and showcase the work that goes into keeping our city moving forward.”
The program is open to Huber Heights residents age 18 and older. Sessions will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at various City facilities starting on January 29, 2026. Participants will take part in tours, demonstrations, and discussions with City leaders and staff, offering a firsthand view of how their local government operates.
“This exciting opportunity for our residents,” said Sarah Williams, Communications Coordinator and the program’s coordinator. “The Citizens’ Academy was designed to help people see the inner workings of their city - not just the processes, but the people behind them and have a little fun while doing it. We want every participant to leave feeling informed, engaged, and proud to call Huber Heights home.”
Space in the inaugural cohort is limited to 25. Interested residents are encouraged to apply early to ensure their spot.
Applications are open through 5:00 p.m. December 12, 2025, and can be submitted online at www.hhoh.org/CitizensAcademy.
