[ARCHIVED] Notice of Data Security Incident

Huber Heights, OH – March 11, 2024 - The privacy and security of the personal information entrusted to us is of the utmost importance to the City of Huber Heights (“Huber Heights”).

As a result of a recent data security incident, an unauthorized party accessed our computer systems on or about November 12, 2023. Upon detecting the unauthorized activity, we immediately contained the incident and commenced an immediate and thorough investigation. As part of our investigation, we engaged leading cybersecurity experts to identify what personal information, if any, was involved.

After an extensive forensic investigation and manual document review, we discovered on or about January 26, 2024 that one or more of the files accessed and/or acquired by the unauthorized party potentially contained personal information pertaining to a limited number of individuals, such as full names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver's license or state identification numbers, medical and/or health insurance information, and financial account information. The elements of impacted information varied per individual.

Huber Heights has no evidence of any identity theft or financial fraud related to this incident. However, out of abundance of caution, commencing on March 11, 2024, Huber Heights notified individuals whose information may have been included in the files accessed by the unauthorized party. Notified individuals have been provided with best practices to protect their information, and individuals whose Social Security numbers were contained in the impacted files have been offered complimentary credit monitoring. Notified individuals are encouraged to remain vigilant in reviewing their financial and explanation of benefits statements and report any suspicious transactions.  Additional information for safeguarding personal information is set forth below.
